How long is it you have been away from the gym and working out?
Let’s me guess. You really do want to get back and get started, but everyday something is holding you back from taking the first step.
First, it is one day off, because you were tired. Then one more day, still because you were tired!
Then it became a few more days, like this, tired. At the end of the week, you finally told yourself “I will start on a fresh, this coming Monday! You know the beginning of the week?”
But, did you get started? No! And now a couple of months has passed, and you haven’t started yet! Do this sound familiar?
First of all, it is something that happens to all of us, and it is entirely up to our discipline and self-motivation how fast we get started again.
If you feel you need that extra push, then why not start out with this article? Here you are going to get 5 tips to get you back in the gym working out!
Remember, the sooner you get started, the better and the happier you will be.
Overcome Resistance
Yeah sure Martin, but this is what all this article is about right? Yes, but resistance is something more, and very similar to procrastination.
Mentally many of us have a resistance barrier, that holds us away from doing what we are supposed to do. Like, you really want to get started working out, but your brain keeps coming up with “Brilliant” ideas not to.
Ideas, like you, need to buy new gym clothes before you can start, or you have a little injury under your left toe that prevents you from training your arms.
Resistance is the evil part of our brain that will prevent the good part from taking over. It is the same resistance that often prevents us from pursuing our dreams, starting a business, going on a journey of our lifetime.
So how do you overcome this resistance? As Nike says; Just Do It!
Don’t think about it, just jump straight into it. As soon as you are back in the gym, your endorphins will kick in, and you will feel happiness and pleasure. Gone is resistance.
Start Slowly
Your last workout before your unexpected break was probably a killer workout. You were the King or Queen of the gym mastering a high-intensity workout and lots of weight.
Often the thoughts of what you did last, is enough to make us keep procrastinating our return to the gym. Deep inside we know, if we are going to repeat that workout, it is going to be painful. At this stage, pain is something we don’t want.
To overcome it, just think that you are going to start out slowly. Don’t think about how much pain your last workout will cause you if you did the same workout now. Just think start slowly and go easy with your workout.
It is essential that you establish yourself at your current fitness level and work yourself up from there. No worry soon you will become the champ again.
Change Your Routine
One reason why you kept yourself away from the gym for so long is perhaps that you started to get tired of your routine. If so, it is time to do a shake up and get started doing something new and existing.
For example, if you have been doing a classic weight lifting routine followed up with 30 minutes of cardio, you can start doing Cross Fitness routine instead.
There is nothing wrong is shaking things up from time to time, also if you a have a specific goal in mind and your new routine is not 100% optimized to your fitness goals. It is better to change your routine than stop working out.
One thing you can do is to do the opposite of what you are doing now. Like if you are lifting a lot of weights, you can switch to cardio and vice versa.

I know this one can become quite expensive, but don’t leave this option out. Often a less expensive coach is a better option, they are more keen to give you a good workout and service. Remember, they are in the process of getting their business started. So you can get some pretty good deals if you take your time to look around.
There are two great advantages of hiring a coach to get you back in the gym.
First, you will learn something new, like new routines, exercises, and dieting. But what is more important, is that having an appointment will make you accountable. You have to show up for your appointment. You will thank yourself for keeping your appointment.

It can be quite hard knowing that your goal is to lose 40 pounds and it will be somewhere far out in the future you will reach your goal. To overcome this hurdle, it is a good idea to set up some milestones to lead you on your way to your goal.
